PENANG HILL FESTIVAL 2022
The Penang Hill Festival (PHF) is back for its third edition and promises to be better than ever. This year’s festival-themed “See the Nature, Feel the History” will be held from 5 – 7 August 2022.
What better way to celebrate the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve’s recognition under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme, than through a series of programmes and talks that will take place in the ancient rainforest on Penang Hill.
Ranging from an immersive sunrise yoga experience to exploring the nocturnal wonders of the pristine rainforest nearing dusk, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the Hill’s exceptional biodiversity.

SUNRISE YOGA
Reinvigorate your mind, body, and soul with our award-winning yogi, Lay Gaik, atop the iconic Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk, as the sun casts its first light on the lush and pristine rainforest of Penang Hill.
This immersive experience is ideal for beginners and advanced yoga practitioners.
The fee also includes free and easy access to The Habitat Penang Hill.

NIGHT EXPLORATION
Once the eyes adjust to the darkness, explore the wonders of the ancient rainforest as nocturnal creatures come to life under the moonlight. Our UNESCO-accredited Biosphere Reserve is home to bountiful biodiversity, and our professionally trained Naturalists are sure to bring to light the many wonderful creatures that call our rainforest home. A truly unforgettable nature experience awaits.

THE PENANG HILL BIOSPHERE RESERVE PANEL SESSION
Biosphere Reserves across the world are celebrated for their exceptional biodiversity and distinct social landscapes, as well as for their potential to demonstrate innovative ways of living in harmony with nature. Learn all about the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve since its accreditation last 15th September at our Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve Panel Session.
This panel comprises of key members of the dossier team and academicians from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) consisting of Prof. Dr. Siti Azizah Mohd Nor, Prof. Sr. Dr. Mastura Jaafar, Dr. Nadine Ruppert, Dr. Abe Woo Sau Pinn, and Penang Hill Corporation’s very own expert in terrestrial ecology, Dr. Muhammad Azmil bin Abdul Razak. This Panel session is chaired by Mr. Allen Tan, Managing Director of The Habitat Group. Let us together explore the priceless treasures that lie within our hills to our sea.

THE JOURNEY OF WASTE IN PENANG
Have you ever wondered what happens to the waste we dispose of every day? After throwing our rubbish into the bin and having it collected, we tend to not give much thought to what happens to it, do we? It’s about time we learn more about our trash journey.
In “The Journey of Waste in Penang”, Ahmad Uzeir, the Environmental Education and Outreach Officer at Penang Green Council, will enlighten us on the process of waste beyond the bin and ways we can effectively manage our waste for the wellbeing of our planet.

FUNGI - THE MIDDLEMEN OF THE FOREST
They're all around us and often too small to be seen with the naked eye. Contributing significantly to the overall tropical forest ecosystem, more than 90% of the estimated 3.8 million fungi in the world are currently unknown to science.
Conducted by Dr. Rosnida Binti Tajuddin, an ardent mycorrhizal fungi researcher from the School of Biological Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), this fungi talk will introduce you to the incredible diversity of macrofungi found on Penang Hill specifically, as well as their functions towards the forests and human beings.

ORCHIDS OF PENANG HILL
For centuries, orchids have fascinated people across the globe. From the gargantuan Tiger Orchid to the diminutive Ribbon Root Orchid, the humid dipterocarp forests of Penang Hill are home to more than 150 species of wild orchids, catch a glimpse into the heritage of orchid discoveries on the hill, and what lies ahead. The talk will be followed by an exciting walk to spot wild orchids in-situ along the trails of The Habitat Penang Hill.
